Who?

You! Anyone can learn to dive using SDI’s modern training program. SDI Instructors have trained people from ages 12 to 82 to become SCUBA divers. The minimum age is 12, and until a junior diver reaches the age of 15 they will be required to dive with an adult certified diver. You do not have to be an Olympic swimmer. A basic swimming competency test is given. Anyone with average swimming skills will pass it easily. If you are in good health you can learn to SCUBA dive.

What?

The PADI Open Water Diver Course is the name of the program that will make you one of the world’s best divers. PADI stands for Professional Association of Diving Instructors. PADI is the world’s largest diver training agency. Southeastern Divers is a PADI 5-star Training Facility. By our affiliation with PADI, Southeastern Divers can assure you that you will be trained using the world’s most up-to-date diver training system and will receive the best dive training course available. Upon completion of this course you will be awarded the world’s most well recognized and most coveted certification card.

Where?

Southeastern Divers has two locations in North Alabama to serve you. There is a SDI Dive Center located in Florence and Huntsville. We conduct SCUBA classes in both cities throughout the year, and in other locations upon request. Southeastern Divers has been training divers in North Alabama since 1980. We have an excellent record of diver safety and hope that you will help us keep it that way. Through our doors pass the best divers in the world. You could be one of them.

How?

Your training will take part in four phases.

The first phase is home study.

On your own you will read the PADI Open Water Diver manual and complete the knowledge reviews at the end of each section. In addition there is a video segment that corresponds to each of the 5 chapters in the manual. You will view these on your own prior to class.

The second phase is Classroom review sessions.

Here you will listen to a short review of each module presented by your course instructor. Homework will be turned in and a short quiz given. This is where you can ask questions and have your instructor explain things you may not have fully understood in the book or video.

The third phase is diving in a swimming pool.

Here is where the fun really begins! From the very first day you will really be diving! During your pool dives your instructor will teach you the skills and techniques you will need as an Open Water Diver. You will have already seen the skills demonstrated on the video so mastery of these skills usually happens quickly with the help of your instructor. The PADI Open Water Diver course is designed so that each student progresses at his or her own pace. Learning to dive using the PADI system with SDI is great fun and very rewarding.

The fourth phase of your training is called Open Water training.

This is when we take you to actual open water dive sites for 4 open water dives. During some of the dives you will rehearse some of the skills you learned in the pool.

 When?

The possibilities of how, when and where the four phases of training are completed are endless. Call or stop by and speak with one of our sales people, or ask to speak to your instructor. They will be able to give you all the details of how the course is being conducted. Class formats will sometimes change to reflect the latest teaching methods from PADI or to meet the changing needs of our customers.
